Some young ANC voters say the party has the best policies when it comes to issues affecting South Africa’s youth.

The ANC is hosting one of its final election rallies at Curries Fountain in eThekwini.

The city is home to three public universities and several private ones, making young people an important voting bloc in the upcoming local government elections.

People in their 20s have consistently had the lowest voter turnout in elections, as the high rate of youth unemployment has left many feeling despondent about participating in elections.

However, some young voters attending the ANC rally in eThekwini on Sunday, like Lindani Gumede, say the party’s record in governance should inspire young people to vote for it.

“The ANC did many things before other parties came. There was no NSFAS in colleges or schools; they (ANC) came with it.”

Another young ANC supporter, Nkululeko Khumalo, has cited government policies implemented by ANC administrations as the reason they will be voting for the party.

“There are many parties that have been started, but their fundamental principles and policies come from the ANC, so you cannot run away from voting for the ANC.”

Gumede and Khumalo have urged young people to get more actively involved in politics and elections no matter what party they support.
