Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has cast his vote at the Mponegele Primary School voting station in Seshego.

Malema is voting in his home township, located near Polokwane in Limpopo, where he was born and raised.

The EFF leader hails from Ward 13, an area where his party enjoys significant support.

Malema was accompanied by fellow party leaders and his son as he arrived at his local voting station in Seshego.

While the EFF controls Ward 13, where Malema is from, the party does not govern the entire Polokwane Municipality.

Malema has criticised the African National Congress (ANC)-led government in the city, saying residents continue to face challenges with basic service delivery.

“We have to fix the water infrastructure. There is a problem of water because they deliberately sabotage the water so that they can bring water tankers.”

In the 2021 local government elections, the EFF obtained 22% of the vote in Polokwane, while the ANC secured 58% of the vote.

Malema believes that the EFF is now chasing an electoral victory in the city, as he believes the ANC could go below the 50% mark.
