The African National Congress in Gauteng has lodged formal objections challenging discrepancies in the 2026 Local Government Election results, insisting that all irregularities must be thoroughly investigated.
The party has confirmed it submitted approximately 35 Section 65 objections to the Electoral Commission before the prescribed deadline.
The IEC has since announced that, as of Saturday afternoon, it has received 197 objections, with 54 dismissed, eight withdrawn and two upheld.
The African National Congress (ANC) said that recounts have already confirmed its victories in seven wards across Ekurhuleni, Johannesburg and Tshwane, with more outcomes awaiting official IEC confirmation.
The party is calling on the IEC to give all objections the necessary attention, saying successful challenges must result in appropriate corrective action.
It said that it remains confident in the merits of its submissions, insisting that the final results must accurately reflect the will of the people as expressed through the ballot.
