KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) law enforcement agencies have told their members to deal decisively with anyone seeking to disrupt the local government elections.
More than 300 voting stations have been classified as “high risk” in the province, meaning there is a potential for crime, violence and other disturbances.
On Tuesday, a parade was held in Durban featuring South African Police Service (SAPS) officers, members of the army and road traffic inspectorate who will be deployed across the province.
KZN SAPS commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi gave the marching orders.
"You must go out there and enforce the electoral act and other laws of the country without compromise. Any action that may threaten to compromise the integrity of the 2026 local government election must be dealt with accordingly and swiftly."
