Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero has cast his vote in the West Rand on Tuesday morning.

Morero is among the over 2 million voters registered for special votes in this year’s local government elections.

He’s appealed to voters to turn out on Wednesday in their numbers and vote for his party, the African National Congress (ANC).

Morero reported to Laerskool Roodekraans on the West Rand, where he said he voted for the ANC.

Despite what seems to be a city in disarray with little to no water supply in some areas and waste that hasn't been collected in weeks, Morero said he remains confident.

“Yes, definitely the voters will still vote for the ANC. We have done a lot of campaigning work in the last 18 months; communities and our support base remains strong.”

However, he’s admitted that the last three weeks have been tough.

“But I am also encouraged that not so long ago, this morning, some systems in Soweto have recovered, which is a good indication of the interventions and the work we have been doing.”

Meanwhile, more voters, including the elderly, continue to trickle in at the centre as special voting continues.
