UMkhonto weSizwe (MK) officials in KwaZulu-Natal are en route to the South Coast, where the party’s regional coordinator was gunned down on Monday night.
Lastborn Shazi was killed while preparing for the 2026 local government elections slated for 4 November 2026.
This comes while ActionSA has also reported attacks linked to its councillor candidates this week.
Shazi was in a virtual meeting at about 21:00 on Monday, coordinating the MK Party's election plans, when he stopped responding.
He was allegedly shot dead.
The MK Party has called on the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) to investigate the case, with spokesperson Mkhuseleli Mlengane noting that a motive is yet to be established.
"Allow police and relevant authorities to conduct their investigations thoroughly without disruption, and further, to respect the family," Mlengane said.
Meanwhile, ActionSA is also probing separate attacks on its members.
This week, in Tongaat, a councillor candidate's house was burned, while in Maphumulo, a party member was murdered.
In Pietermaritzburg, another candidate was allegedly assaulted.
The party's Zwakele Mncwango has also cautioned against speculation.
"We have to rely on police investigations," Mncwango said.
"If you never received any threats, it's hard to say it's politically related. It's highly [likely] police [matter], but I wouldn't want to judge."
Since August, two Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) members and three African National Congress (ANC) members have been killed in separate incidents in the province.
