At least 780,000 South Africans have cast their ballots on the first day of special voting.
Early voting began today and will continue tomorrow ahead of the main election day on Wednesday.
The special voter process is reserved for eligible voters who are unable to visit polling stations on election day.
This includes essential workers, people living with disabilities and the elderly.
Speaking at the IEC’s National Results Operation Centre in Midrand this evening, IEC CEO Sy Mamabolo said that he hopes to see even higher turnout figures tomorrow.
“The Commission is grateful for the cooperation of voters, candidates and political parties throughout the 1 day. We also appreciate the commitment of thousands of election officials who worked at voting stations and those who conducted home visits,” said Mamabolo.
