The Person
36-year-old Khathutshelo Rasilingwane is currently a member of the Gauteng Legislature. She was born in Limpopo, and raised in Thembisa. Rasilingwane was youth representative for the DA, and was elected a PR Councillor in Ekurhuleni in 2016. She was appointed Community Safety MMC in 2022 and held the position for four months, until the removal of the DA-Mayor at the time.
The Message
Rasilingwane describes Ekurhuleni as the heart of logistics and production in Gauteng. She’s been vocal about alleged maladministration by current city leaders, and promises to get Ekurhuleni “working again”.
The Agenda
Among Rasilingwane’s priorities is “crushing” corruption via merit-based appointments to ensure public money is used to restore basic services. She also wants bylaws to be enforced by “empowering” law-enforcement agencies.
The Challenge
The DA has had the chance at this before, twice. The party’s Tania Campbell was elected into the position - and voted out by opposition parties, in 2022 and 2023. She’s been accused of failing to exercise oversight to prevent alleged criminal infiltration of the City, which Rasilingwane promises to uproot.
